“I bet you we are the only girls (and possibly boys) to have a cordless power drill in our hall!” Like a Boy Scout, we were prepared. Adjusting to dorm life seems to be something rather sublime to me right now. Who would want to live at school, I thought my teachers did that. Remember how in elementary you thought that? I KNOW you did. I was so into moving into my new room, that I took the time to draw it to mini scale and then place the beds in various layouts to save as much floor space as possible. Oh boy, GEEK. But, it did pay off. Our beds were painstakingly built to loft in an “L” shape. On lookers always say the same, “It’s HUGE in here”. I think so too.
The first dinner in the Viking Union was all sorts of crazy. All I see in front of me is a huge people circle shuffling around the salad bar. No visible start to a line in sight. So, I walk up to the person I’m closest to and ask where a line starts. He just looks at me rudely and doesn’t give a valid answer. OKAY buddy, I know you want first dibs on that amazing macaroni salad, you don’t need to worry about me taking it all. I felt like I was in junior high again when I turned to look at everyone in their places at their tables. It’s overwhelming to try to find a friend or two in the crowd. Impatience and nervousness came over me in thoughts of not being able to find where my roommate disappeared to. Eventually we got back together and ate our dinner. Pudding, brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough pie will surely be the death of me.
Showering, grooming and changing are easier and more convenient then I expected. Water heats up fast and our room is only a door down. But some people should be more aware of their…activities at night in their own dorms. If you are across the way with the lights on, but you think you are shielded by the curtains, you are wrong. I will gladly accept the hilarious entertainment of you “getting down” to yo’ hip hop.
Well, for now that seems like a solid first entry. There will surely be many more amusing stories to keep you people busy. A lot of things have happened to me that I want to share in one post, but I believe it’s best to keep you waiting.
