" Oh, hey! Are you Indian?' inquired a voice and a pointing finger from within the crowd of people. At first, it didn't register in my mind that anyone could possibly be talking to me, but after looking around for a second or two I realized 'Oh, duhhh....she's talking to me' I was the only 'Indian' within a five mile radius of where the voice was coming from.

'Um, yeah......'I said somewhat hesitantly, not because I was unsure of my own ethnicity but becasue I was in complete shock at how I had been approached.

'God...Am I crazy? Or does this sort of thing happen to everyone at college?'- I thought as we introduced ourselves and talked about the same old, same old -classes, where we were from, majors, etc....
Anyway, suffice to say I ended up exchanging numbers with the girl and agreeing to hang out the next day.

I don't know if any of you find this 'experience' weird...but I def did. I have to say I have never gone up to anyone, much less someone I didn't know, and ask 'oh, hey are you caucasian?' or 'oh, hey are you black?'
Anyway, any input anyone has at this point and time would be great.

I think that since the majority of people around here are not Indian, it's a special site to see someone who is. A lot of people are curious about other cultures and people that are different than them, and a different ethnicity often notes a variance in culture. It's easier for someone to be very obviously in the "majority" of caucasians or "blacks", which is why you won't hear people asking about it, but the rarity of another ethnicity less publicized gets the curious cat going.
