MBA 527: Short Paper Assignments (including case analyses)

See also: MBA 527 Syllabus | Final Paper | Decision Table

These papers should be 3-5 pages in length—more if necessary. The first set concerns the various moral considerations we will use in class. They will be due in class the day we are using them in a case analysis. You should answer the following questions:

  1. Define the consideration in question.
  2. Discuss the types of situations in which you think this consideration is particularly relevant.
  3. Discuss the types of situations in which you think this consideration is not relevant.

Due dates:

Consequentialism 1/19

Kantian deontology 1/26

Rights 1/31

Duties 2/7

Virtue and character 2/14

Social contract 2/23

Relationships 2/28

The others are case analyses. At least five must be written. If you wish you can write on more of them and drop the lowest grades. They are due, by e-mail, according to the following schedule:

1/19 case 1/24

1/26 case 1/28

1/31 case 2/4

2/7 case 2/11

2/14 case 2/18

2/23 case 2/25

2/28 case 3/2

3/2 case 3/7

3/7 case 3/9

Any case discussed in class is fair game for a paper. They should conform to the basic outline followed in class discussions, minus the description part:

  1. identify the key moral issues
  2. identify the key stakeholders
  3. identify the desired outcome according to the relevant consideration
  4. define alternatives according to the relevant consideration
  5. identify the best alternative according to the relevant consideration
