The following are direct quotes from student evaluations of Dr. Young's courses.
Anthropology 201: Introduction to Anthropology
She opens the whole class's eyes to what's happening with the world and how our actions affect everything.
I didn't have to take this class. I just thought it might be interesting and I am so grateful I did because it has changed my understanding of the world and my own life.
The issues covered in this course allowed me to...realize that there is a whole other world outside the one I knew.
Anthropology 353: Sex and Gender Roles in Culture
I love everything about Kathy Young. I picked my major in anthropology based on my two classes I took from her and Dr. Young as an individual. She is incredible. There's nothing about her or her teaching styles I would want to change.
Anthropology 456: War and Human Rights
[I wanted to] let you know of the profound impact that you had on my life. I currently work for a social justice organization...I naively thought that to find human rights abuses, one would have to cross a national border, because the US experienced the 60's Civil Rights movement. Our organization is taking part in a protest against a very discriminatory proposition...Thank you for pointing me in the direction of human rights.
All of my peers are getting tired of school and hating their classes. I feel the exact opposite. This class has engaged me, challenged me, taught me to the extent/degree that I am motivated about school/life, and liking both as well.
I think this class is absolutely necessary in today's world. So much of what I learned was new to me and I can't imagine other students not having this chance.
Anthropology 457: Anthropology of Death and Dying
This was BY FAR the most interesting class I have ever taken at any school.
